What is Nelco N5000-30/32 BT PCB ?

The N5000-30/32 BT is a high-speed, low hold time nitrocellulose epoxy package. It is necessary for medium to heavy-duty bonding applications. The N5000-30/32 BT utilizes a light-cured, no mixing essential synthetic resin. Therefore, it allows the package to be quickly and easily dispensed and applied in an even coat by hand or with any standard glue gun.

After curing, the N5000-30/32 BT is fully cured and exhibits excellent adhesion to various substrates. It includes plastics, rubber, ceramics, and wood. We can achieve a standard hand gluing application at room temperature without hot or cold temperatures. When using the N5000-30/32 BT, we must use a compatible adhesive dispenser system. So, we can dispense this package through a Scapa Glue Gun with a standard 7/16 orifice. Any gun nozzle that provides a steady application of 120 mils of adhesive per minute will work. For heavier applications, we recommend the Nelco Z4000-30/32 Control Glue Gun with a 1″ orifice and nozzle tip # NG18.

Adhere to the desired substrate using Nelco Z4000 Dispenser Gun with a nominal output of 90 mils/minute or less and standard nozzle # NG18.

When using the N5000-30/32 BT, we must use a compatible adhesive dispenser system. As a result. this package can dispense through a Scapa Glue Gun with a standard 7/16″ orifice. Any gun nozzle that provides a steady application of 120 mils of adhesive per minute will work.

Properties

The N5000-30/32 BT is suitable for medium to heavy-duty bonding applications. Upon curing, the N5000-30/32 BT consists of a light-cured, dry blend of a synthetic resin modified with self-setting black epoxy. This epoxy acts as a catalyst. As a result, it allows the dispensing and application of the package in an even coat by hand or with any standard glue gun.

Physical Properties

  1. Water Absorption: The N5000-30/32 BT will absorb approximately 0.05% of its weight in water (at room temperature).

Mechanical Properties

  1. Modulus of Elasticity: The room temperature modulus of elasticity of the cured N5000-30/32 BT is 3,300 ksi. So, this value is the sum of the moduli due to the resin and epoxy. Therefore, it is not suitable for processing or bonding applications.
  2. Poissons Ratio: The room temperature Poisson’s ratio of the cured N5000-30/32 BT is 0.21. So, this value reflects the bonding material’s ability to “trap” motion. It reduces movement rates in an applied joint without decreasing bond strength.
  3. Shear Modulus: The room temperature shear modulus of the cured N5000-30/32 BT is 551370-1400 ksi. This value represents the bonding material’s ability to resist and maintain a relatively uniform shear load on an applied joint without decreasing bond strength.
  4. Peel Strength: The cured N5000-30/32 BT has a peel strength of 1.53 kN/m, measured in a tensile testing machine at 300% of the applied shear force.

  1. CTE, linear: The room temperature CTE (-40 °C to 125 °C) of the cured N5000-30/32 BT is 211.3 x 10 K-1 (using ASTM E8).
  2. Glass Transition Temp, Tg: The room temperature Tg of the cured N5000-30/32 BT is 205 °C.
  3. Decomposition Temperature: The room temperature decomposition temperature of the cured N5000-30/32 BT is 344 °C.
  4. Flammability, UL94: The room temperature UL94 flammability rating for the cured N5000-30/32 BT is non-flammable.

Chemical Properties

  1. Biological Properties: The N5000-30/32 BT is a synthetic biologic material. It is not considered hazardous in concentrations up to 50% by the weight of the dry blend.

The resin has a density of 1.20 gm/cm, and the modification consists of a void space, causing a calculated density value of 1.23 gm/cm. So, this value is constant for all volumes and modified for any temperature changes.

We should multiply the theoretical field shear strength by 0.67 to factor in the weight of the substrate. For example, if you were gluing two 2″ x 12″ boards, you would multiply 100 lbs by 0.67 to get 67 lbs.

Adhesion Properties:

This data represents adhesion by surface tension only. Actual adhesion on the workpiece may vary.

To determine the adhesive in use, measure its dry weight by dividing by 270. Then, divide this number by the N5000-30/32 BT’s dry weight to find how many grams of N5000-30/32 BT are in one gram of adhesive.

This data represents the adhesive’s peel strength under very small tensile forces. It depends on the value of the peel strength published by the manufacturer. Therefore, actual performance over a large surface area may vary.

The sustainability of adhesives is currently an area of intense research and development. The following properties come from recognized standards, guidelines, and test methods. However, not all manufacturers test using these protocols or publicly release this data for their adhesive products.

Application and Storage Instructions

To maintain its shelf life, we must store the N5000-30/32 BT in a cool and dry area. You should not store the package in direct sunlight or scorching locations. So, it is best to store the package in a cool, clean container with a tightly fitting lid.

The following storage conditions apply:

Temperature: At temperatures less than or equal to 5 °C.

Relative Humidity (RH): At relative humidities less than 95%.

For the maximum shelf life, it is necessary to store the product at room temperature (25 °C) and 50% Relative Humidity.

Packing and Storage: The adhesive should be tightly sealed in a moisture-proof container to prolong its shelf life. As a result, you should not store the package in direct sunlight or extremely hot locations.

Biological Safety:

The N5000-30/32 BT is a synthetic biologic material and is not considered hazardous in concentrations up to 50% by weight of the dry blend.

PARACETAMOL:

The maximum paracetamol level permitted in the N5000-30/32 BT is 500 mg/kg. Therefore, Paracetamol used in this adhesive blend should be helpful according to the manufacturer’s directions.

PHTHALATES:

The maximum level of phthalates permitted in the N5000-30/32 BT is 5.0% total. The individual phthalate levels are not specified.

CHLOROPHENOLS:

The maximum level of chlorophenols permitted in the N5000-30/32 BT is ten ppm (0.035%).
